Activities at Oakland Nursing Home
FACILITIES
- We have four communal areas at Oakland Nursing Home. These include Lounge, Conservatory, Inner Hallway/Lounge and Dining Room. There are small gardens to the front and side of the building.
- Specialist equipment, hoists and parker baths are available on all floors. A separate laundry facility is situated outside the main building and we have purpose built kitchens and food storage areas.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
- Recognising the importance of social activities, Oakland Nursing Home employs an activities organiser who offers:-
Reminiscence sessions
Games
Quizes
Music and Movement
Health and Beauty sessions
Arts and Crafts
....there is also a shopping service
- A coffee Club was introduced in 2007 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10.00 am - 10.30 am). Here staff, service users, relatives and friends can get together to discuss local and national events in addition to other issues relating to daily living.
- Daily newspapers, magazines and talking books are available.
- Professional entertainers, local choirs and schools provide entertainment throughout the year.
- There are no visitor restrictions and family and friends are encouraged to visit as they wish. For security reasons there is a locked door policy and all visitors are asked to sign a visitor's book both on arrival and departure.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
- Our chefs provides a well balanced menu over a period of four weeks and this is revised every 3 - 5 months. There is a daily choice and we endeavour to respond positively to special requests.
- Therapeutic diets are correctly formulated, eg: diabetic, vegetarian, allergies. All service users are asked about likes and dislikes. A Dietrician is available for consultation and there is advice and support from Scarborough Health Care Trust.
- Service users are encouraged to achieve independence in eating and drinking and, if necessary, they are assisted by staff in an unhurried and dignified manner.
LAUNDRY
Oakland provides a full laundry service. Personal and house laundry is undertaken by the housekeeping staff. Personal clothing is treated with great care and attention.
FIRE PRECAUTIONS/PROCEDURES
The home has an annual inspection by North Yorkshire Fire Service and Fire Risk Assessments and policies are in operation. Full fire procedures are posted throughout the home. Staff receive annual fire training and fire alarms are tested on a weekly basis.
